We will in the near future attempt to put much more information on the website here. Information that we hope will help you determine which system is the right one for you. At the same time, we will also introduce a way of determining which propeller is the most efficient for your boat size with the system that you selected with the help of the System Selection Information.
We realize that there has been an un-welcome disruption in the supply of Thoosa systems from the manufacturer ASMO. As painful as it has been to some of our customers, it is most definitaly for the better. We will add more to the website here explaining the situation. But we are still in business, trying to keep up with the large number of inquiries we receive.
One of the advantages to the Thoosa system is that the gearing ratios can be fitted to your existing prop and shaft. You will never have to replace them, as you might have to with other systems on the market. With the Thoosa systems you decide on which prop and shaft you use, we only give advice and adapt, we never dictate.
First of all is the introduction of the Thoosa 17000. This powerful electric propulsion system will be able to fit in for larger sailboats with higher horsepower diesels. The Thoosa 13000 has also been improved, power wise, as it was once the Thoosa 12000. This gives it more flexibility for powering larger sailboats, adding increased maneuverability and control to the helmsman. The versatile Thoosa 9000 is basically unchanged, but has a more fine-tuned controller. The Thoosa 7000 has upgraded its motor to a 200mm motor comparable to the 9000. This will give it more torque and provide more power to the shaft for larger diameter props. The Thoosa 6000 is unchanged, except for its motor. The previous motor used has been discontinued because of limited capability. The systems all use different motors that are specifically selected and adapted to the application, Some of the systems use double magnet motors others single magnet motors, depending on which was the most suitable for the size and power output.
About the LEM Motor
The Lynch (LEM) motor is without a doubt the most powerful and capable motor for marine applications and is a far cry from the motor it replaced even though both were designed by Mr. Lynch. It is used in military aviation applications around the world for some good reasons, its reliability, small size and low weight. These are the best at what they do. The LEM motor has quickly become the most reliable DC motor for this application. They are a patented design and very powerful, but still small in size. There are other motors used for the same purpose today, but they do not come even close to the performance, quality and durability of these motors. They are the Rolls Royce of this size motor, and indeed that is a good comparison, because they are, just like the Rolls Royce, hand built in the UK.
