At this point, we would be happy to recommend specific parts for the following applications. Later we will be offering these components for sale here on this website.
The choice of battery type is very important. We strongly recommend the use of Gel or AGM batteries because of superior performance over flooded cell batteries. East Penn makes some excellent batteries for marine use.
These two types of batteries are somewhat more expensive than the flooded cell batteries, but they last much longer for this type application. Furthermore they do not leak, minimal out-gassing, there is no maintenance and they can be secured in any position, except up side down.
Sizing of the battery bank (total Ampere-Hours) will depend on usage. We will be happy to recommend.
These are nice to have to keep track of battery load and usage. This device will not only act as a "fuel gauge" for the battery bank, but also show the status of operation, something that comes in handy to monitor the charging of the battery bank under sail.
The additional components for the Battery Monitor are already built into the Thoosa system controllers, so it is easy to add to the system.
Please note: A low cost auto battery charger cannot be used for Gel and AGM batteries.
Please note: Battery Chargers are available for voltages higher than 48V. If ordering from the web store please specify voltage needed by contacting us at our office at 262-509-5007 or by email at epsystems@ngcmarine.com
This would typically run off of shore power (110VAC) or if you have an onboard generator. We are offering the NG1 that is a great "overnight" charger set up to effectively charge your 48V battery bank, but very small in size.
We also offer a much more powerful charger, the NG3, for short recharging cycles. This runs off of a 230VAC source due to the amount of current drawn. Like the NG1, this charger is specially set up for 48V and your battery type.
This device will be needed for house supply, unless you want to install a regular deep cycle flooded cell battery to take care of this function. The House Battery needs to be charged now and then.
